We have finally filled the first 25 positions in our Executive Leadership Program and all of our volunteers hit the ground running. Local 3573 paced the state and much of North America during the last few months, attending a myriad of educational programs and participating in a wide variety of diverse events throughout the country. Our local dominated the Statutory Training for Fire District Elected Officials and Fire Chiefs, maintained the largest labor contingent at the Arizona Fire District Association’s Winter Conference, and sent the greatest number of members in our organization’s history to attend IAFF specific programs at the Affiliate Leadership Training Summit in Los Angeles. We just returned our largest group ever from the Labor Relations Information System collective bargaining conference in Las Vegas, have a baker’s dozen enrolled in Cornell University’s Labor Leadership Certification program, and were well represented at both the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona and International Association of Fire Fighter’s Legislative Conferences.
These educational advancements were accomplished alongside increased practical activities during the same time period; traversing the path of direct lobbying efforts and political campaign coordination to inter-local research projects and enhancements with member service opportunities. I believe the experience gained through these and already scheduled future events will provide our Executive Leadership Program participants with the skills they need to become an invaluable resource for their fellow members and the next generation of local leaders. I know these attributes will become more evident as we evolve our service model during the second phase of our succession planning.
In our 25thyear of existence, I believe we have established an incredibly solid foundation for the next 25 years with our initial Executive Leadership Program of 25 individuals. Each of these volunteers have sacrificed time, energy, and other resources in this endeavor; some even using all of their annual vacation time and AWR(s) to attend training and other events. As we complete the initial phase of the program and gravitate toward the second, I am certain these leaders will help create a palpable sense of excitement within the United Sun Cities Fire Fighters Association as they lead you toward the third and final phase of our current succession plan.
I thank you all again for your continued support and remain at your disposal should you require additional information or amplification on any point.
Best Regards,
T.J.
